Health and Nutrition

Recognizing the interconnectedness of health and nutrition with broader socio-economic and humanitarian factors, LCPD is committed to an integrated, evidence-based, and community-driven approach to improving health outcomes. Our strategy focuses on strengthening healthcare service delivery, addressing malnutrition, and building resilience among vulnerable populations.

A well-functioning health and nutrition system is fundamental to breaking the cycle of poverty, malnutrition, and preventable deaths in Northern Nigeria. By implementing integrated, community-driven, and evidence-based strategies, LCPD seeks to enhance healthcare access, combat malnutrition, and build resilience among vulnerable populations.

Through strategic partnerships, policy advocacy, and direct service provision, we aim to contribute to a healthier and more nourished society in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria. LCPD recognizes the importance of integrating Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) as a core component of its health and nutrition strategy. By mainstreaming MHPSS into primary healthcare, schools, and community outreach programs, LCPD aims to build community resilience, promote healing, and support recovery of individuals affected by crisis.

Our strategic objectives include: strengthening healthcare systems and expanding access to quality primary healthcare services; reducing malnutrition and improving food security through community-led nutrition initiatives, including targeted supplementary feeding programs and healthier practices; and improving access to inclusive, culturally sensitive, and community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services for conflict-affected populations, especially children, youth, and women.

Our Theory of Change:
IF integrated health systems deliver high-quality maternal, child, adolescent, and mental health services— alongside effective community engagement and risk communication against preventable diseases,
THEN there will be a reduction in morbidity and mortality rates and an improvement in nutritional outcomes,
BECAUSE communities will have access to skilled healthcare providers, reliable medical supplies, and systems that ensure accountability for delivering equitable and quality care.
